YBHG. PROF. DATUK DR. TS. ABDUL KHALIL, NAIB CANSELOR BAHARU UNIMEL

Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil Shawkataly dilantik sebagai Naib Canselor Universiti Islam Melaka (UNIMEL) yang baharu berkuatkuasa 1 Januari lalu.

Menerusi kenyataan dikeluarkan UNIMEL, pelantikan Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil adalah bagi menggantikan Prof Datuk Dr. Mohd Taib Dora yang memegang jawatan Naib Canselor sebelum ini. “ Sebagai seorang yang berpengalaman luas dalam pentadbiran institusi pengajian tinggi (IPT) pelantikan Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil mampu memperkukuhkan dan meningkatkan lagi tahap daya saing UNIMEL.

“Pelantikan ini juga selaras dengan hasrat UNIMEL untuk melahirkan generasi berilkmu pengetahuan dan berkemahiran di peringkat tempatan serta antarabangsa. “ Pada kesempatan ini juga UNIMEL merakamkan setinggi-tinggi penghargaan dan terima kasih kepada Dr. Mohd Taib atas jasa bakti beliau sepanjang menerajui UNIMEL,” kata kenyataan itu. Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil adalah anak jati Negeri Melaka berkelulusan Diploma dari Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) dan Ijazah Sarjana Muda dari Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Beliau kemudian melanjutkan pengajian ke peringkat Ijazah Kedoktoran di University of Wales, United Kingdom. Selain itu Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil, berpengalaman luas dan pernah menyandang jawatan Pengarah Strategik Pembangunan Perniagaan, Pejabat Naib Canselor Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Antara jawatan penting lain pernah disandang beliau ialah, Dekan Sekolah Teknologi Industri, USM, Fellow of Institute of Materials, Mineral and Mining (FIMMM, United Kingdom), Fellow of International Association of Advanced Materials (FIAAM, Sweden) dan Adjung Profesor di beberapa buah universiti tempatan serta luar negara. Selain itu beliau juga adalah penyelidik yang disegani dalam bidang Material Science and Engineering.

YBHG. PROF. DATUK TS. DR. ABDUL KHALIL APPOINTED AS NEW UNIMEL VICE CHANCELLOR

Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil Shawkataly has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Universiti Islam Melaka (UNIMEL), effective from 1 January.

According to a statement issued by UNIMEL, the appointment of Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil is to succeed Mohd Taib Dora, who previously held the position of Vice Chancellor.

“As an individual with extensive experience in the administration of higher education institutions, the appointment of Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil is expected to further strengthen and enhance UNIMEL’s competitiveness.

“This appointment is also in line with UNIMEL’s aspiration to produce knowledgeable and highly skilled generations at both local and international levels.

“At the same time, UNIMEL would like to express its highest appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Mohd Taib for his invaluable contributions and service throughout his leadership at UNIMEL,” the statement said.

Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil, a native of Melaka, obtained his Diploma from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Bachelor’s Degree from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He later pursued his doctoral studies at University of Wales.

In addition, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. DHc. Abdul Khalil possesses extensive professional experience and previously served as Director of Strategic Business Development at the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Among the other significant positions he has held are Dean of the School of Industrial Technology at USM, Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM), Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials (FIAAM), and Adjunct Professor at several local and international universities. He is also widely recognised as a respected researcher in the field of Materials Science and Engineering
